I am a fan of…

Posted in Games, Life  by Rey | March 28th, 2008

Just a quick list on whatever things that I am a fan of. The list is not everything that I am a fan of, they are just whatever that I can think out of my mind now.

1. Angry Video Game Nerd
2. Daigo Umehara
3. South Park (Eric Cartman)
4. Mariah Carey
5. Screwattack.com
6. Kentucky Fried Chicken
7. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
8. Soul Calibur series

Ken Lee, Tulibu Dibu Douchoo!

Posted in Games, Life  by Rey | March 22nd, 2008

First, the video below illustrates what happens when a village woman in Bulgaria decided to participate in the idol program without having an access to the CD, lyric or even an internet source for the song she is going to sing. She changes the song name, fucks up the lyric… and yeah, Ken Leeeeee!

For myself, I got totally addicted to Street Fighter III. I even bought an arcade stick (the one at X-Arcade.com) to improve my combos since the damn control pad does not register the inputs fast enough.

Another thing is that I did move to the new place… but since it is damn dirty now, it is pointless to take photos, especially if it is to show off, amirite?

Oooh, and you know what? I got an early Crisis Core! Don’t ask me how I get it… but yeah, I am playing it right now. The game is amazing… the graphics is like better than Final Fantasy XII? I mean you do see jaggies on the character models, but their expressions and design are that much better compared to the ones in FFXII. The CG is awesome, if you want to see what it looks like, check out some of the videos at gametrailers.com.

That’s about it I guess, oh and I am on shitty internet now… gotta wait for a few more weeks before the “real” one comes back. Ken Leeeeee!

Daigo Umehara “The Beast”

Posted in Games  by Rey | March 8th, 2008

So I have been watching various Street Fighter III clips on YouTube for like hours everyday… fantasizing that I could do those shit that those pros are able to pull out… But yeah, I got my ass kicked by computer (hardest, mind you) before being able to try those moves. Anyways, there is this Ken Japanese player that I always watch right now, Daigo “The Beast” Umehara. He is arguably the best Ken user in the world. Don’t believe what I am saying? Watch this video… at first I thought it was fake, then I checked around various forums to find out that it is indeed real. Man… what a beast!

Some Fighting Games I Kicked Ass At

Posted in Games  by Rey | July 2nd, 2007

Hey peeps, I have been spending most of the holidays at the casino… winning and losing money (mostly winning :D). With that I realized that I have not been updating this thing for a while now… so here it is, introduction of fighting games that I think are great (and kick ass at too lol).

Street Fighter 2
If you don’t know this game, you are either living in a village without any kind of gaming device… or you are just “kampungan”. This game used to be so damn famous that ended up with so many spin-offs… extensions or whatever shit you name it. It is the game that started the whole 2D fighting thing… if you still haven’t played it, download the rom and give it a try. I kicked so many people arse with Ken/Ryu at my home, arcade and friend’s house. I used to suck at it when I first started playing (I was like 8?), I don’t even know how to shoot the infamous “hadouken” shit until I take a look at the people hands at the arcade. Anyways, this game rocks, play and love it!

Tekken Series
I can’t really say that I am that GOOD… cause I got my ass whooped once by my friend’s friend. But against the general player that doesn’t memorize those fricking juggling combos, I do pretty well. Combination of high and low attack + throw with Law should do most of the tricks, those quick punches help too.

Soul Calibur 3
This is the game! This is the shit! I used to hate this game A LOT. But then as Daniel (My housemate) and Albert (The Nub) were playing the game at my place… I find the game pretty attractive to watch. Unlike Street Fighter, this game is really fast-paced and the graphics are extremely realistic too. At first, The nub actually dominates with this game, using Mitsurugi and spamming the “front front triangle” move. Since at that time, Daniel still sucked, he got his ass whooped (scores like 20-5?). I was the same shit, I got my ass whooped too (2x-1). This is actually the first game where the nub was able to dominate with… he tried various games against us but was always ended up trashed.

So during the holiday when I was back in Indonesia, I played the game quite often with my brother (he doesn’t help much.. since he sucks too). But I kinda learn a few things here and there… I don’t know what did Daniel do, but he somehow improved too. So when the holiday was over… guess what happened? The nub got an ass-beating from us. Scores like 50-0 when he played against me was common, especially if I started using my beloved Sophitia again and again… then that’s when the quote “Don’t keep using cheap moves lei… NOT FUN ONE” came out of his mouth. I was like wtf dude, you can do the same… but you just suck lol. So yeah, he persevered for another 1 month, before quitting the game completely.

I am very sure there are more fighting games that I can play really well, but I kinda forgot them, will post more when I remember… with stories if they exist of course. ;)

My Recent O2Jam Experience…

Posted in Games, Life  by Rey | May 22nd, 2007

Remember how kick ass I used to be at this game? Remember how many asses I kicked during my prime era? So yeah… recently Wei Quan (the only guy who has the determination to play this game with me) asked me to play this game with him again, and since I was bored to death, I agreed. The results of the games are pretty clear: I got raped / trashed / owned / dominated / killed. Okay, it may not be that bad since I still won some games… but still, I used to be the one killing him in this game, but not anymore… things changed. :(

Troll, My New Love

Posted in Games  by Rey | May 12th, 2007

Finally, a post related to DotA. Ya know, usually when I play this game… when I own (as in dominate), it is mostly with cheap heroes like Stealth Assassin, Bloodseeker and Bounty Hunter (oh and super cheap ones like Ogre Magi too). Let me break down how I usually own with these heroes.

Stealth Assassin
This is my signature hero. If I use him, it will either be a blowout (like 15-0?) or break even (like 5-5, 7-5?) when I am on my bad days. The pattern of this hero is simple (in my play style at least)… All you need to do is farm farm farm farm (gotta do it in a solo lane, bottom for Sentinel and top for Scourge). Since SA is a invisible hero, some people use this advantage to harass when they hit level 6. I don’t, I use it to farm (so that I will be getting hit less in the process). And once I have the following items:

That is when I start hunting down heroes and start my dominating spree (walk behind a lone hero, smoke and start backstabbing him to death lol). Then after that followed by this:

This is the final core item for SA… with this, you can rack kills easily (the highest I went was 18-0). Of course, there’s a drawback when you’re using SA. If you are laned against a range hero… and the player is a PRO, he will carry a gem and start screwing you over… and when that happens, that’s the end of SA (I actually don’t believe it until I was given a reality check in a game). But still, it is my best hero.

Bloodseeker
Super cheap hero from the beginning (yeah, from the start). He sucks blood, can rupture and runs damn fast when someone’s HP is below half. The pattern is simple… Rupture >> Bloodrage (on himself) and start hitting the ruptured hero. That is 1 kill (simple?). If you have an average micro (last hitting and deny), you should be able to own with this pig look-alike.

Bounty Hunter
Another cheap hero. Runs like madman (that helps) and the pattern of killing is the same too. Wind Walking behind the enemy, and once the enemy is alone, hit him once, cast Track on him and start chasing and hitting him like mad. Once the HP is extremely low, throw the Shuriken aka Toss at him. Another simple to use hero… I got a 10-0 on my first try with him (that is beyond Godlike lol).

Ogre Magi
Lamest hero ever. Farm til you got Aghanim (stunning + fire opponent in the process) and you can start owning. When you see an enemy, just stun and pray (actually, you don’t need to pray since 30% chance is pretty high) for a multicast. If you got a multicast, that’s one kill for ya. Even a 10 year old can dominate with this ugly hero.

Actually, Faceless Void can be considered as cheap as well… but since it is damn weak early game and can be screwed easily, I decided not to list it as “cheap”.

So onto Troll. This hero isn’t cheap. The movement speed is damn slow, the ultimate skill increases the attack speed by 120% and movement speed by 11% (kinda crappy compared to Faceless’ “clock up” and SA’s “Invisibility”) and the starting damage is crap. Oh, and this hero doesn’t have any escape mechanism, so if you’re ganked, that’s the end. But I like this guy, I own most of the time with him and here’s what I do.

Early game, I will go to the mid-lane, and start farming (you need to have an above-average last hitting skill to use this hero since it is items-dependent). Keep on farming til you get this item:

Once you get these, you can start killing heroes but I suggest that you only participate in team battle or gank (don’t try finding heroes by yourself to get kills… it is pointless, you’re not strong enough to kill 2-3 heroes at once). Keep on farming til you get these items:

This is where you shine. If you are level 16 (120% addition attack speed), you should be able to kill a hero with ease (and record time too). Mjollnir gives you 70 damage and a 20% to release 200 damage chain lightning, with a high attack speed (Tread, your own high base agility, 35 agility from Mjollnir and of course, 120 from your rampage), you will be dishing tons of damage every second (base dmg + 70 + 200 again and again… it hurts). Not only that, if you cast Mjollnir to yourself before you entered the battle, enemies will think twice before hitting you since there’s a 20% chance they get an addition 200 damage on hitting you. You should start racking kills in this stage of the game (getting a triple kill is a common thing).

You should be able to get LOTS of money from this stage on, so what do you do? Get more damage items, I usually go by this order:

You won’t be able to get all of them. But getting MKB is good enough… people will run when they see you, enemies will try to gank you, so never ever enter the battlefield first, always be the last to clear up the mess. Don’t try to be a rambo and enters the battle brainlessly, you have to know that the purpose of Troll is to clear up enemy heroes ASAP behind a tanker during a team battle for the push.

Final note: Why do I prefer Troll over SA when SA is so much easier to use? The answer is in consistency. With SA, if your early game is screwed, you’re pretty much screwed. But for Troll, no matter how much you feed early game (I went as low as 0-6 before and ended up with 10-7), as long as you got all the necessary items, you will still be the one laughing at the end since all you need are items + level 3 rampage. That’s about it for my post.

The handsome #3 (behind Omni and Gondar), Troll lol

Pokemon DS

Posted in Games  by Rey | May 7th, 2007

I have been spending quite some time these days playing Pokemon DS and man, it is addicting as hell. :D There are some factors that make this game more attractive compared to the previous games in the series such (taken from kotaku):

  • A 3-D look that makes Pokemon jump off the screen.
  • Worldwide wireless battling and trading using Nintendo(R) Wi-Fi Connection.
  • Voice chat functions that let players talk wirelessly with friends.

Oh, and here is the starter Pokemon that I chose…

poketheman.jpg
Fire Pokemon: The Monkey! (I named him “Nub”)

On the storyline and gameplay, they are the same as all the Pokemon games that we have been playing again and again for years. There is a dude/chick that got his/her starter Pokemon by luck and then set out to be the best trainer ever (along with filling the crappy Pokedex).

Sounds crappy? Nah, the game is actually pretty good… go give it a try. xD

R4 for Nintendo DS

Posted in Games  by Rey | March 14th, 2007

This invention rocks. Thanks to it, my DS is able to play downloaded roms now. Not only that, the procedure of getting things to work is easy (yesh, much easier than PSP… with less risk too xD). Anyways, I downloaded quite a number of games that I have been wanting to play, and here are some of the games that I am loving (so far…).

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team

DS1.jpg

I love this game, A LOT! The concept is simple, 2 pokemons (your pokemon partner and you) making a rescue team and… rescue pokemons that are in trouble. I know it sounds stupid… but it is addicting as hell. xD

Final Fantasy III

DS2.jpg

I haven’t really played the game for very long, but it is looking good so far. Square did the right thing for this game, take my word for it.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

DS3.jpg

I am a big fan of the Castlevania series… so that makes me an instant fan of this game. It plays like the other hand held Castlevania games: The castle exploration, the half-assed RPG elements, the Dracula storyline yadayada. Like the other Castlevania titles, the game offers AWESOME music, so try to download them or something? Oh, this game also offers a new co-op system… it involves the 2 main characters (yeah, there are 2 main characters, a male and a female) working together to complete certain “problems”.

Megaman ZX

DS4.jpg

It’s Megaman! Need me to say more?

New Super Mario Brothers

DS5.jpg

We grew up playing Mario Bros. on the NES. Now that there is a remake of the game (with LOTS of improvements), everyone should try it! :D

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

DS6.jpg

It plays like Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on the GBA… + Junior Mario and Luigi… wtf?

That’s about it, I guess… can’t wait for Fire Emblem to come out on the DS. Make it quick Nintendo!

PSP Baby!

Posted in Games  by Rey | September 7th, 2006

When was my last post? About 4-5 months ago? WTF… sorry people I have been busy with various things in my life (assignment is one of them).

To begin, I bought a PSP off eBay few weeks ago and I am in love with it! For those of you village people who don’t know what PSP is, it stands for Playstation Portable. Here’s an image of the portable gaming machine:

Playstation Portable

Pretty isn’t it? Sony sure knows how to design stuff… although they overcharge their products all the time.

Anyways, I got mine downgraded to firmware (version) 1.50, which allows me to play backup games (PSP ISO anyone?) and install various softwares such as PDF reader, Text file reader and emulators (SNES, NES, Genesis and GBA emu = Fuck yeah, they are all running at FULL SPEED!)

Also, as I am typing this, I am listening to Jay Chou’s new album titled StillFantasy. Just like most of his albums, there are 2 to 3 decent songs, while the rest of them can be thrown into recycle bin without regret.

That’s about it, I will try to post more often from now on. Bye~

P.S: Like the new skin? :D

O2Jam

Posted in Games  by Rey | April 14th, 2006

I will try to give a brief review and explanation on what O2Jam is about in this post, hope this will be able to encourage you guys to play it as well.

So, what’s O2Jam? O2Jam is basically the same thing as Beatmania (those music games that you see in Arcades). You see the notes on the screen and hit the buttons accordingly to play the music. There are 7 buttons in totals and you will be able to set them to suit your own preference inside the game. I have recorded 2 videos of the easiest songs in the game to show you people what the game is about, this will make it easier for me to explain the keys and other elements of the game.

See the 7 buttons on the left? You can set them to suit your needs… the yellow button (the one at the middle) is usually set as your spacebar, though. Let’s talk about combos, it is really easy to generate combos in this game since it counts both Cool and Good into the combo count, which makes it extremely easy for you to rack up a high combo counts. Just don’t forget to get as many cools as you can, though, because if both your opponent and you get the same amount of statistic (combos, miss, bad), the game will look at the number of cools to determine the winner. Let’s not forget about the Jam combos. Jam combos are the big number that you see at the character’s body (you will also see it at the left bar). You will be able to get Jam combo by filling the green bar below the 7 buttons that you use to play the song. Since it is also included in the score calculation, try to get as many as possible to increase your score.

Just like GunBound (an online shooting game that emulates Worm), you will be able to buy avatars to buy clothes and accessories for your character. You start the game with a character that is close to nude (underwear for guys… yadayadayada for girls), but the game gives you 10000 of money to start with, so try to get a hair and something to cover your body with that money. The only way to receive money in this game is to play, you will receive money even if you fail a song… but of course, the better you perform, the more money you will get (in a VS mode, the winner will get the most money).

I think that’s about it for this game, you play to improve your skill and increase your level… and play harder songs when you are better. The reason I like this game is because unlike most MMORPG (where you play to get to certain level… lots of pressure and stress), this game doesn’t put any stress on me… I play it not for the level, but for the enjoyment the game has to offer. It has lots of good music and it improves your reaction. Argh… just try it! ^_~;;

Here are some helpful links for those of you who wanna play the game (The official site is down, I will add more links when it is back up -_-;;)…
